Bolærne - the venue for the 5th Salsa Summer Camp

Bolærne is an island situated in the archipelago of Tønsberg, in the Oslofjord. This place is know to be the best summer place in Norway. The island is a 30 minutes boat trip from the mainland and the size of the island is quite small. It takes you only 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other.

It has been a navy stronghold from the 1915 and there are still a lot of remaining from the second wold war. The buildings have been modernized since then and are now in modern standard. In 2002 they closed down the military activities and turned it into resort for the public. Today it is a popular place for local people and families to take the boat and spend a day out at the island. Bolærne also has a habour and many boat turists are using this as there base for their summer vactaion.

In July the weather is normally very nice in this part of Norway. The average temprature during the day is 27 degrees Celsius and 18 during the night. The sea temprature is between 20-23 degrees, so perfect for taking a swim after the classes.

The island has a lot of facilities that is available for the participants, among other they have a beach vollyball court, football pitch and kayaks & canoes. In addition we will have our own speed boat for water skiing and trips around the archipelago.

Accommodation

Bolærne used to be base for the marine. Therefore the accommodation we will use are the form military barracks. There are several different option when it comes to number of people in the rooms and the facilities. Below you find the prices and descriptions of the alternatives:

Kommandantboligen

This year we have been able to get hold of the former residence of the commanding officer, who used to be stationed on the island. The villa (Kommandantboligen) contains five bedrooms, with twenty-seven beds all in all, a living room, a large kitchen and two bathrooms. This is an excellent possiblity for those who wish to save money on accommodation. There is no breakfast included, but you can cook your own meals in the well equipped kitchen. It is also possible to order food in the cafeteria. This is not part of the normal accommodation at Bolærne, which is booked directly with Bolærne. Instead, you need to book this via our webpage. Click on "Registration" in the booking menu.

Price: 1.100,- NO accommodation K for the whole stay. This means four or five nights depending on your arrival. You choose yourself whether you would like to arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Facilities: Living room, kitchen and toilets. You can use the showers that is in the "Mannskapsforlegningen", where we also have the salsa classes, just 100 meters away.

Bolærne Fort

Bolærne Fort is the military barracks and here you have two different location to choose from.

The barracks for the privates "Mannskapsforlegningen/1990" is where the soldiers lived. It is very close to the cafeteria and in the same building where we have the dance classes.

Price: 340,- NOK per night per person, including breakfast in multi bedroom room.

Facilities: Each room has a washbasin and the there are showers and toilets in the corridors.

The barracks for the officers "Befalsforlegningen" is the place where the officers where based. The place is very close to where we have the parties.

Price: 850,- NOK for a single room an 550,- double room per person, including breakfast.

Facilities: Toilet and shower in each room.

Camping

It is possible to camp for free at Bolærne. There are shower and clothes washing facilities. You can also use the facilities at the private barracks. It is only a 5 minute walk from the camping site to cafeteria.

Boat

Bolærne has a modern harbour that may be used. The price starts at 125 NOK per night, per boat.

Meals

Breakfast

For people staying at Bolærne Fort, the breakfast is included in the price. Other can buy a breakfast ticket for 90,- NOK.

Lunch

You can buy lunch tickets for 160,- NOK. The cafeteria will make a lunch buffet with warm dishes and soup. Te and coffee is included.

Dinner

Wednesday we will have the welcome dinner, which is prawns and white bread, a traditional norwegian summer dish. Price 190,- NOK.

Thursday and Friday there will be a dinner buffet with warm dishes and dessert. Te and coffee is included. Price 190,- NOK.

Saturday is the big barbeque dinner. This is a "must" for everybody to join. Price 210,- NOK
